The audience is the primary form of what causes this media to last. The audience is the pedals the bike; they get the media where it needs to go. Therefore, the media relies heavily on it’s discourse community, participatory culture and public pedagogy. Through observation of previous material we begin to learn what and how the internet functions in terms of its culture. Generally, as previously stated, humor is the recipe for media contagiosity. The audience plays a pivotal role through their discourse communities because we learn and develop the lingo and style of communicating on the internet together – through mediums like Reddit and Twitter. The transference of information on the internet is no longer a producer – consumer format, but with their involvement of creating new media through remixing there is a reliance on the public to create and perpetuate this media ecology.
This GIF below is one that I created and is an example of how the publics participation in the creation of media and remixing is important. GIFs and Memes are very critical to media ecology and rely on the public to spread it around. This GIF that I created takes into account both the discourse communities of hiking and of Arrested Development.
