Movie Trailer Mash-Up

Mash-Ups have become a staple of the whole remix-realm on the internet. Through public pedagogy we have learned what works in a mash-up and what doesn’t, or how to construct according to a genre of mash-ups. This is a well constructed mash-up and they have obviously learned what works through observation of other mash-ups.

 

Apple 1984 Commercial Remix

This is a GREAT example of a remix that is done with political intentions. Remixes can be serious or they can be humorous. In this specific remix there is also an element of stickiness because this is such a famous ad and Hilary Clinton is such a prominent figure in American politics that combining the two has a sticking effect.

 

Hitler Scene Parody

This whole “Hitler Scene” thing is a good example of Rhetorical Velocity. Once this showed up on the internet it exploded and ended up having countless remixes to it. Or is a remix of a remix called a recomposition? Or a meta-mix? Ha.

 

Songs In Real Life

Total Participatory culture. This guy takes lines from hit songs and incorporates them in the dialogue of his storyline. And now people are starting to make their own versions of this video idea. There is “disney songs in real life” for example.

 

Virtual Struggle Bus

I think that this represents discourse community. “Struggle Bus” is one of those things that seemed to pop up out of nowhere and became a frequently used saying among the youth. It’s similar to “First World Problems”. And this Virtual Struggle Bus put that bit of culture on the internet and you can type in your struggles and it’ll start damaging the bus. But only people who understand the Struggle Bus on its own will get the reference.

 

Cathy May

Cathy May represents Spreadability. This video has several million views because it’s just that weird and hilarious that it managed to spread across to a wide audience. It has that humor factor that causes content to move across the internet.
